These two cottages are situated in Quorn near Loughborough in north Leicestershire.
Pretty to look at. Traditional timber framing evident on the two storey cottage. Both show use of local materials: granite, probably from nearby Mountsorrel quarry, and Swithland slates for the roof covering from the long disused quarry in nearby Swithland Woods. Note how the slates are “graduated”: smaller at the top and larger at the bottom.
Often called “vernacular architecture”.
