These photographs illustrate the pride Victorian tradesmen had in the quality of their workmanship.
They are not from particularly grand properties, but “standard” terraced houses in Leicestershire.
Such features don’t always survive the ravages of “modernisation” but when they do they create an impressive first impression and are a strong selling point.
Mosaic tiled hall flooring with ceramic wall tiling adjacent to the front door. A glazed “fanlight” and stone lintel above the entrance door. Decorative internal door furniture.
Retain these features wherever possible if you are lucky enough to have them at home. What is not to like?
