This box frame exposed on the gable end wall of a cottage in South Leicestershire must date from pre 1750 I suspect. Being on a road junction it enables us all to admire the quality of the workmanship.
The discolouration towards the top of the gable suggests rainwater is penetrating down the chimney and permeating into the brickwork.
