Bridging of Damp Proof Course

Bridging of Damp Proof Course

Here we see a garden border which has been created. It has been taken over the line of the house damp proof course (DPC) which is now not visible. Darkening/discolouration of the brickwork indicates that moisture is now being absorbed into the wall by capillary action: a process often associated with rising damp.

Ground levels should be reduced to 150mm below the top of the DPC. If this is done soon the wall may dry out. If it does not then costly damp proofing treatment and related replastering and redecoration may be needed.
